What to expect from beginning to end

A work agreement is then signed along with a down payment, which is half the cost of the total installation. The remaining balance is paid after the job is completed to satisfaction.

What’s expected from the customer:

Textured walls will first need to be skim-coated for the wallcovering to properly lay flat and the seams lie down to ensure your wallcovering lasts for years. Skim-coating takes additional time and adds to the overall cost; however, in return, the paper manufacturer warrants any defects pre- and post-installation, and a two-year warranty on the installation is provided.

If a customer has yet to pick out their paper/pattern, I always suggest you visit Leland's Wallpaper Store to see the many options and patterns to choose from and to get a feel of each one. By contrast, all wallpaper vendors you find online offer samples for about $5 each on average, per sample. Each sample can take 1-2 weeks to arrive by mail. To save time and money, go in person to experience the many different kinds of wallcoverings so you get a feel for the coatings, breathability, thicknesses, sheens, and textures.

Leland's is the biggest wallpaper store in Texas and comes with their very own counsel to assist you picking a pattern that goes with your existing decor. Ask for Melissa, owner and designer. Melissa is always happy to help. I suggest you go with pictures of your current home decor, maybe a couple of the rooms you’re wanting to cover, and the wall measurements. Melissa is a great resource and talent, and I encourage everyone to take advantage of her expertise.

  • Measure the height of the ceiling.

  • Measure the length of each wall, then add them up.

  • Forward pictures of close-ups of the wall's texture, of each wall in a single frame to show doors, windows, vanities, piping, and close-ups of molding and trimming.

If you are a new customer, here are a few things I initially request to provide a more accurate quote if I’m not there to provide an in-person estimation:

  • Agrees to provide access to water, electricity, and open space of no less than 8’ x 8’ for a workstation. The working environment shall remain between 62-76 degrees to ensure proper installation.

  • The customer removes all household and personal items and stores them away from the work area during the duration of the job. Large furniture such as sofas and beds is to be moved to the center of the room, allowing a minimum of 3 feet from all walls.

  • To avoid mishaps, other contractors, workers, children, pets, and individuals are to be absent during installation.

  • Upon completion, you inspect the work and sign off on satisfaction.
